Directions: Via the Mason Lake Trailhead: From Seattle, take I-90 E to exit 45. Cross over the freeway and take road 9030 to a junction about 1 mile down the road. Follow road 9031 to the left for another 3 miles until the trailhead is reached at the end of the road.
Trail Notes: So I was thinking Spray Park today and gave Bill a belated call to see if he wanted to come. He did but had time commitments so instead opted for something in the I 90 corridor. Thinking Snow Lake was likely to be too crowded opted for Mason Lake.
My initial intention was to try to pursuade Bill to try Banderra, but this was not in the cards. The weather was quite hot. For the sake of completness the trail itself is relatively level for about the first 1/2 hour. Following this there is a segment where the logging road transitions to the new Mason Lake (Ira Spring) trail. This part of the trail always disturbs me the most, but isn't much more than 10 minutes. After this one works up an even set of switchbacks which are relatively nice and even lasting about 30-45 minutes. After this there is a short decent lasting about 10 minutes to the lake.
My advice, which probably goes for all the I 90 corridor hikes, is leave early so as to avoid the sun.
