Literally, a friend and I spent six hours looking for the trailhead and never found it. We finally found Road #41, but there was not Green Mountain sign that we saw. There was a brick edifice on the right with the road on the left. Where are you calculating the 17.4 miles? We went much further than we thought it …

Nov 17, 2007, wonderful cool light rain day for a hike. It is a short 1.5 mile hike from Barlow Pass down the Monte Cristo trail to the TH. Look for a large wooden pedestrian bridge that is on the West side of the trail. This takes you to the TH. Previos reports cover the trail. We made it to …

I didn't see this hike as a four star this time of year. The water was not a hazzard, but there are several places on the trail to cross it. There are several visible falls along the way, and you can see a nice river just after starting out on the trial. The trail is well maintained. I was up …

I think it was back in the seventies (so I was a little younger) helped to repair the shelter at the beginning of the trail. My brothers and I hiked up to the mine and to see the plane wreckage. the hike from the main trail up to the plane (or what was left) as I recall was a little …

I have been to mildreds about 10 times and will continue till the body gives out. If you go ,take the time to visit all three lakes. We have seen black bear, deer, mtn goat and alot of marmot. The Biggest of the three lake is in my opinion the best. The far end of the big lake at the base of the …

November 27th - lots of ice for 2/3 of the hike, but it was amazing. I was in shorts, bodyarmor t-shirt and trail running shoes. To that guy in the red truck (he wanted to bet it that it would've taken me 3 hours to get up there and an hour down) - 45 minutes up, 25 minutes down :) …

Hiked this trail in June 2007, it was gorgeous. The waterfalls were gushing, the trees were big, and the lake up top was still frozen over, but not entirely. The lake up top is awesome, and it is well worth finishing the hike. You should wear shoes with snow in mind unless you go in July/August/September, because there is some.

My husband and I stumbled upon this hike completely unprepared for it. We had planned to go on an overnight camping trip, and popped open our book of Olympic National Forest Hikes. I guess we should have read about this hike a little more carefully. It was a very difficult hike, and part way through he had to take my …

Hikers Beware

While this is a nice hike, the parking lot is totally unsafe for parking your car. Glass and ransacked purses can be seen littered in the parking lot. Over the Oct. 9th 2007 weekend we had our car window smashed and the car looted while on an overnight camping trip. Our hiking companions had their car broken into and stolen. …

Kathy: I'm sorry to hear your car was broken into. I 'm the bald guy that was a little ahead of you. It probably doesn't help, but when I got back to my truck around 12:45 everything looked fine and nobody was around that I noticed. This kind of thing always makes me really angry. I now wish I would …

Did this hiki on Saturday, 10/13/07 and not having done a hike this strenous in a very long time, by the time we got to the top I wanted to pass out and sleep for a few hours. The weather was fabulous and the scenery was gorgeous. I didn't do the scramble as I'm quite a chicken when it comes …

The only tricky part of this trial is if you want to loop around the lake (lots of loose large rocks). Otherwise, it is a pretty mellow hike. I gave it 3 stars because of the distance rather than the terrain. My 132lb dog did this with a 10lb pack on without any problems. I may look to camp at …

I have been to several hikes around the Seattle area, and this one was one of the best. If you are looking for a good work out with beautiful scenery and don't want to spend too many hours, this was the perfect hike. I got a late start at around 4pm but had the luxury of hiking on a weekday. …

Mt. Si · Glen007 · Oct 11, 2007

This was the first hike I did after moving to Seattle in early September. The trail was smooth but semi-steep for the first 90% and then turns to rocks with a short scramble at the top. I went during the week and only saw about 20 people on the trail. From what I read in other reviews, if you don't …

Shocking to me, this trail starts in the Olympic National Forests (dogs allowed), but after 1.5 mi you enter the Olympic National Park (no dogs allowed). I brought my dog and luckily didn't run into any park rangers. Round trip this took us approximately 7hrs, so as long as you get to the trailhead by 10am you can be out …

On the Labor Day weekend got half way up the final slope to the false summit and turned around. Issues - first time on crampons, 64 years old, tried to do the hike in one day, underestimated the difficulty of the final slope to the false summit. Fixes - train better, make it a 2 day hike, don't believe the …

Did the hike today with my two dogs. First hike of the fall season for me, so I wanted something that I coud use as metric going forward. Some of the best mountain pictures I've ever taken were shot here, but you have to start early in order to not be shooting into the sun. Also, make sure you keep going past 2nd Burroughs onto the next hill (not down to the camp) for the upclose and personal view of the mountain. Ranger told me it was 3rd …

Make sure you don't go into the trees instead of straight up the mountain on that last stretch of the trail. That right turn is unmarked, but it'll be pretty obvious. I was kinda scared to do this one after looking at people's reviews consistently giving this one 4-5 difficulty level, but it was a blast! If you're in decent shape do not be afraid to take this hike. Even though it's steep, the elevation is even and it's not like you have to crawl on your four at any point …

Park at the trailhead on FR 73. Within a hundred yards or so you reach the MRNP boundary, in a mile you're at Lake Eleanor, and in 3 miles at Grand Park. You can continue across GP then down to Berkeley Park. The round trip this way isn't a lot shorter than from Sunrise, but it's better, because you do …

Went on 9/15/2007 with 3 of my children ages 11-17. While it was quite a bit different than was described in the book we read, it stated it was easy for small children, it was still very enjoyable. I am just starting to get back into shape so I had to stop a heck of a lot more for breathe …

The trick to enjoying the Snow/Gem Lakes trail if you don't want the crowds: go mid-week after school has started (I went mid-September), leave early, and spend all your time past Snow Lake! I left the trailhead at 8:30am on a Thursday and only passed two people en route to Wright Mtn. I spent over an hour on the summit …
