Mystic Lake · David Martinusen · Sep 22, 2010

8/29/2010 I was looking for a somewhat challenging day hike. 15.8 miles seemed reasonable. But when I got to the Carbon River ranger station the day before my planned hike, I found out that the 5 mile road to the Ipsut Creek Campground was washed out several years ago, and that there is no plan to repair it any time …

I love the ice caves, and go there every year at the least. It's about a 45 minute hike, and there's only a couple puddles after it has rained. They now have a lower trail to accomidate for the washed out trail, and the bridge has been rebuilt after the avalanche. My mom took her class on a hike up …

Alta Mtn. Rampart Ridge · geotonio · Aug 29, 2010

Sunday August 29, 2010 hike - 6 1/2 hours round trip - parking lot to Alta Mnt. summit and back - but that was a fast pace. Campers at Rachel Lake reported spotting a cougar Saturday evening. All day Sunday, above Rachel Lake the clouds were moving in from the west side of the ridge but dissipated as they crossed …

We took this hike with three kids (ages 6, 7 and 9) and a small dog and everyone faired well until we crossed the birdge and headed back on the the Dingford creek trail. It quickly turns into a rock car road....that lasts WAAAAY too long to be interesting.

It is better to eat lunch there and turn back …

I did the hike to Comet Falls 8/28/2010, It was a gorgeous day. And I loved the hike. I have to say the last half of the trail is very challenging and quite steep. But well worth it. I encounted an eldery couple who were huffing and puffing just about a half mile from the parking lot. I warned them.

Awesome hike! Made a day trip out of it; started up the road at 10am and got back around 6pm. Once you get up to Foggy Lake, I highly recommend pushing up towards Gothic Peak; the view goes from a 10 to a 20. Also, once you make it down from Gothic Peak you should definitely dip into the lake …

Mt Adams · Jeff Richtmyre · Aug 20, 2010

Done this a couple times. Last in July of '09. South climb is non-technical, but challenging enough. 6 1/2 hours up, starting at dawn, 3 1/2 down. Great glissade from false summit--2000 vertical feet in a few minutes to lunch counter. Definitely worth the effort, at least once!

Boulder Lake · Chris · Aug 18, 2010

I love this hike, the first part is hard, about a half mile of steady incline, then it takes a turn and you have switchbacks most the rest of the way, alot easier so don't give up too soon. Parts of the trail are tight and overgrown, but others are wide open. For all the complaining on here, I don't …

This hike kicked my backside this weekend.... we hiked up Saturday, stayed at the basin for the night and went up to Foggy Lake and beyond with minimal gear Sunday... gorgeous view once we climbed the ledge up from Foggy Lake opposite Del Campo... gorgeous view of Rainier from one of the most enchanting little meadows i've ever seen.

MailBox Peak · Corrine · Aug 15, 2010

Wow! What a hike. I went with a few friends that had done it before, so I was warned, but nothing will prepare you for how steep it actually is. You think it's bad and then it gets worse about half mile in. It was a hot day and I went through two CamelBaks so be sure to bring lots …

Boulder Lake · Anonymous · Aug 14, 2010

I didn't finish the hike due to an asthma attack but I felt I needed to inform other hikers of the flies.... apparently DEET doesn't work on them. I'm not sure if they're flesh eating or what, but they were very persistant in chasing me and my hiking buddy.

We parked at Sunrise and was going to do the Burroughs trail, but even the 2nd of Aug. wasn't late enough to melt off enough snow to make safe passage. We were told by a park volunteer to go take the trail into Berkeley Park and see the flowers. Good suggestion! The trail is easy. It's all down hill into …

My husband and I went on the ranger guided tour in early June 2010, went on the 9am hike. This was totally worth the $10 per person fee because the ranger was able to teach us things we wouldn't have known on our own. We had kids and old people with knee problems and everyone was able to get through …

I went to the lakes on the last Thursday in July, 2010. I brought a friend from Indiana who has never hiked anything harder than a state park trail. We aren't friends anymore! lol J/K We both had on very heavy packs, me because I like the torture of it and he because he didn't know any better. Anyhow, the …

MailBox Peak · Anonymous · Jul 23, 2010

We did Mailbox Peak after work yesterday. Our group was able to meet up at the parking lot by 5 and then we headed up. This was certainly the steepest trail that I have done. With exception to the first 1/4 mile or so, the hike feels like doing the stairmaster at the gym for 2 hours. Constant climbing. As …

Despite what many books and websites say, this trailhead now starts in the Mt. Dickerman parking lot - which adds 1.3 miles each way to the old trail head- making it a 10.6 mile hike. We went over the 4th of July weekend and the trail was not too crowded and was well mantained. However, the meadows were still covered …

Mt. Pilchuck · Wendy · Jul 8, 2010

Okay, I just started hiking last year. What have I been missing??? This was my second time up Mt. Pilchuck, and by far my favorite! This hike has everything. Old growth forest, waterfalls, snow, rocky slopes, and amazing views. If you go spring/summer you'll run into snow. This year, second week of July, we were hiking through it most of …

Just came back from the climb a few hours back. I was in Seattle over the long weekend and thought that hiking at the nearby Mt. Si would be a good way to end the weekend. I actually wanted to do the normal Mt. Si hike; but as luck would have it, I lost my way and ended up in …

Starts off pretty good but about halfway into it you get into some very overgrown trail with devil's club and the sort. Probably one of the best maintained trails in Washington. Too bad that can't be said of the parking with a million potholes. We started early on a Monday. Only about a dozen people encountered on the way up. The trail is on an incline for much of its 4 miles. There is a nice creek about 1.75 miles in. No …
