Nice enough lake, although there's still quite a bit of snow between Talapus and Olallie today, enough so that we lost the trail and felt like it was time to turn 'round. Passed at least 2 large groups of people unequiped for the rain or the lingering snow - women with open-toed sandals, guys with no trail etiquette for hikers …

Boulder River
★★☆☆☆this trail is very.... very muddy. not a soul there when we arrived on a friday morning. the river is running fast and the first big waterfall was pretty cool. the trailhead is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from my lake forest park home.
Lake 22
★★★☆☆this hike is short and sweet. i only gave it a 3 star because there are a lot more awesome hikes out there. but it's still a good hike, i'd recommend it for someone new to hiking.... or if you're looking for a almost snow-free trail at this time of the year. since i read somewhere that this is a …
New hiker
★★★★★It was a great time. I'm new to hiking and this was wonderful. It rained all the way, but it didn't ruin the beauty of the old growth and waterfall.
mt si
★★★☆☆today is one of those perfect hiking days in seattle. gorgeous view of mt rainier from the top of mt si. the sky is so blue, you can see for miles and miles! the trail is in great condition. going up was tough, i got tired after mile 3 and really had to push myself the last mile up, it …
Loved this hike
★★★★★This hike was so much fun I have to give it the higest ranking. I did this hike with my wife and yound son and both of them couldn't say enough about how great a day it was. the weather was absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend.
This was the first hike for us for the season. It was early May so we were looking for a hike that did not involve a high elevational climb so we could stay out of the snow and not kill ourselves after not hiking all winter. We had a great time! The crossings over some of the areas were a …
May 25, 2006
★★★★☆May - still snowy.
We choose the trail since many reviews say this treil melts earlier then others in the area. Well, right. About 2 miles (out of 4) were quite dry already. However, it is still quite snowy. Snow fileds in places and last half a mile is completely covered with snow. Lake is covered with ice and …
Mailbox in May
★★★★☆I'm a fan, this is a great conditioning hike...
- Close to Seattle
- Burly
- Not very crowded
Me and Holly made it to the boulder field, relaxed and decided to skip the last leg. I'll be back
Great hike!
★★★★★Was a beautiful hike. I've done it before in the fall - but I like it better in the spring. The waterfalls were overflowing so much you could feel the spray 30 feet away from where the trail runs past. There are still a ton of trees obstructing the path. One bad enough, that you have to go up off …
do the full loop!
★★★★☆If you are going to do this hike do the loop, not just an up and down. After you make it to the upper falls look past the sign (that warns about continuing further and getting lost), and look for the blue trail markers. If you follow these up the trail about a quarter mile it will take you to …
Nice quick hike
★★★★☆Great little hike, about two hours round trip. A little steep at the start to get you warmed up and then a nice easy hike from there on. Recommend doing this one early in the day; this trail can get pretty crowded cause it's so close to I-90 and parking fills up fast.
I'm a relative newbie to hiking so take this as you will. Started from the Exit 38 side and worked our way down to the bottom off the Falls along the River. Great Views of the Falls and well maintained trails. Great family hike. In retrospect, would have liked to do the 2 - car thing, since uphill on the …
Very Easy Hike
★★★☆☆I took my family with children on this hike. I was very pleased with just how much we could see with little effort. A must do hike if you are with small children or the weather is hot.
Unlike many winter hikes in city park settings, Boulder River is a bona fide trail in the wilderness that you can hike when other trails are snowbound. It was 36 degrees and raining at the trailhead when I hiked this trail on 1/29/06. It was very quiet and peaceful, and although there were few "vistas," the forest and waterfalls were …
I took my parents on this hike. The lake is amazingly beautiful, and the hike is quite enjoyable without being too strenuous. It's short and scenic and low in altitude so it can be done for much of the year. Highly recommended.
I found this a rather boring but non-strenuous hike. The lake at the end was beautiful. It's not a hike I'd be likely to do twice, but it's a good option for a beginner hiker.
This is an excellent hike if you're looking for something short and close to Seattle. The views from the top are fantastic and the hike itself is not very strenuous. It's definitely worth the effort. The lake at the bottom is very nice as well.
The journey in to the trailhead was a difficult one on the vehicles, and it saddens me that the subsequent erosion is going to lead to the eventual inaccessability of this point by vehicle travel. We did this trail in June, and even at that time of year foot traffic was not all that heavy. I rated it a difficulty …
March 26, 2006
★★★★☆This trail is about an hour fifteen minutes out of North Seattle with no traffic. There was snow in the parking lot, but not as we made our way half way up the trail. The spring run of and rain made for a wonderful hike between forty shades of green moss, evergreens, ferns and plants thinking about budding up. Also …

★★★★★This is a great hike, especially if you like waterfalls. There are many great places to take pictures, as long as you take the "Woody" Trail which follows the river, as opposed to the Old Railroad trail (which is one mile farther to hike). I did this hike with 3 friends and had great weather. We passed, and were passed, …
Wonderful Hike
★★★★☆My mom and I made this hike last summer during August. We ran into a few people, but nothing outrageous. I am 26 and she is 56, we are both in pretty good shape. She had a bit of trouble with how steep the switchbacks were, but after taking a few breaks along the way we made it. The lake …
One of the Best
★★★★★The first time we came to Arches, in summer of 2004, we skipped this hike. We had saved it for the last day of our stay and with poor planning, ended up at the trailhead in the afternoon with temps pushing 100 degrees. The following year we came back and it was on my list of must do's. Well, it …
Angels Landing
★★★★★Hiked this trail May of 2005. Lots of switchbacks, pretty steep. Great climb along the spine of the mountain at the very top. There are chains to hold onto as you climb. Tough but well worth it. The trail was marked strenuous and for a novice like myself it certainly was. I overestimated my abiliy and underestimated my need for …
Tolmie Peak
★★★★★I did this hike a year or so ago. It was very beautiful. The fire lookout was cool and definately worth the extra climb. I went with my Dad and little brother as well as my daughter. My brother who was about 10 was able to hike this without any difficulty. My Dad had to pack my daughter on his …
