On Sunday, 7/2/06, we went to I-90 Exit 47 and started at the Granite Mountain/Pratt lake trailhead and decided at the last minute to do Pratt Lake. The post says it is 6 miles to the lake - it took us 2.5 hours to get there, half hour dinner break at the lake, 45 minute hike back up and then …

My husband and I did this hike last year (2005). Again, it was another fantastic hike - the scenery delivered - talk about breath taking. Southern Utah is so foreign to this Pacific Northwest Native and so incredibly beautiful. I can't wait until I get another chance to experience Arches National Park again.
Mel & Nel-trail notes 2006
We love the weekend hikes, and Lake Serene proved our favorite again this year so far! The trail starts out at a nice slow incline for a good warm up-we reccomend you start early in the day to beat the heat if going June through August...the views throughout the trail are amazing, making all …
My husband and I did this hike in May of 2005 - it was short but sweet. Arches National Park is something to behold and I'm aching to get back there.
Overall, this is a good but not great hike. It was 85 on this day and it gets really really hot up the trail once you gain some elevation. That's because there is pretty much no tree cover for the 2nd half of the trail. Also the trail is quite dusty and my white t-shirt was brown by the time …
We just did Annette Lake Sunday afternoon. We had thought about Melakwa and Snow Lake but the ranger said there was still a lot of snow at both locations and recommended Annette instead. The hike was nice on an 80+ deg day. There were dozens of overnighters hiking down while we were going up. There was just a touch of …
This is a beautiful hike, with smaller crowds because it is not the easiest trailhead to find or access even though it is close to Seattle. But wait until August! I tried it out last weekend (June 20ish) and about a third of the way up the trail was entirely covered in snow. It was welcome coolness on an exceptionally …
Nice starter hike
★★★★☆I went on June 25, 2006 for the first time. It was a hot (hit 93F later in teh day) and humid day. At least I got started early at 10AM. This is a very nice hike to get you going for the hiking season. There was a little bit of everything: streams, rivers, forest, shade, boulders, scenery, switchbacks, elevation …
Goat Lake
★★★★☆Since the road is washed-out, this turned out to be a long hike. Drive Mountain Loop Highway until road block, from this point to the Goat Lake trailhead is about 3.5 miles. And according to the Verlot Public Service Center the trail itself is 10 miles RT. So all in all we hiked a total of 17 miles today (6/27/06)!
…Freemont Lookout
★★★★★This remains one of my favorite day hikes in Mt. Rainier. The trail is always in good condition and the views are utterly fantastic. The first half of the trail to Frozen Lake is easy and fairly flat. It can get rather crowded especially on weekends. the second half of the trail starts up a long upgrade that provides a …
Although I completed this hike on 28 June 2006, I recommend folks consider waiting a few weeks until more of the snow melts off the upper trail. The final mile is tricky. Summerland remains my favorite hike at MRNP, but still alot of snow the final mile to the top (5,980 feet). The great views will still be there in …
Boulder River
★★★★★Monday, June 26th, started the trail at 9am. This is probably my favorite running trail in the pnw. The views of the river and its tributaries in the form of a multitude of falls are absolutely gorgeous. The 3 or 4 times that the trail comes in close proximity with the river gives ample opportunities for a swim, which is …
Went June 24th, 2006 trail still covered in fairly deep hard packed snow from about 30 min in. though is pretty in its own right.
Nice small hike. The ice caves are not as big as some of the pictures on this site. The hike is partially covered and at the end, its open so on a sunny day it can get really hot. Perfect hike if you dont want to do something strenous
Hard but worth it !!
★★★★☆Wonderful scenic hike. Don't forget to take the "Recreation Pass" we wasted 30 minutes :-( . And also Trekking Pole is very useful for this hike as the elevation gain is too much...
Missed the lake
★★★☆☆This was the first hike of the year that I did. It was nice just to get out of town and into the woods. We hit the trail at 9:45 and there wasn't a lot of people at that time. I did like the lower parts of the falls because they were easyer to see and take a good picture. …
My wife and I did this hike as a short overnight mid June, 2006. The Mt. Rainier web site said the trail was open (which I incorrectly interpreted as meaning clear of snow - silly me), so we hit the road, arriving at about 1pm. The walk to the glacier was easy, and the bridge was no big deal. The …
Where's the End?
★★★☆☆Had an interesting day of it. None of us had been on the hike, and one guy took off, so I hiked hard to catch up with him--before he got lost. The trail follows a creek in some places and crosses creeks in others, so it's not easy to stay on the trail. Then, because I didn't know where the …
Be Prepared for Snow
★★★☆☆Completed this hike on 21 June 2006. Elevation at trailhead was 3,561 ft according to my GPS. First 2.25 mile is relentless uphill with multiple switchbacks. Snow on trail (5,352 ft) about 1/4 mile from Lower Crystal Lake but easy to follow footprints. Lower Crystal Lake is snow-free and campsites appear melted out.. Trail (1/2 mile) to Upper Crystal Lake …
Oyster Dome
★★★★☆I hiked Oyster Dome yesterday and it is a really nice hike. The trail is in good condition, although lots of bugs! It is steep but the view at the top is worthwhile. It's such a different view from your typical 'lake hike' or a mountain top view. From up there you can see the world it seems like. The …
Carbon Glacier
★★★☆☆Lots of vehicles at the trailhead and lots of people on the trail today! The trail is flat, wide, and in good condition. What I liked most was the suspension bridge on this trail. The glacier itself does not look like your typical glacier, it looks dirty! This trail has lots of options, if you continue past Carbon Glacier, it …
Good family hikel
★★★★☆A 70 year old birthday/father's day gift by my daughter and her two children, 10 and 12. Beautiful hike through green, trees, rocks. I'm not in shape, and it took us 2 hrs, 15 minutes to the top, casual. Then 1 hr, 15 minutes down. All but my daughter were tired, but the pictures were great, and the memories, well, …
Great trail
★★★★★This is great trail. Not only is Lake 22 beautiful, the trail along the creek is quite scenic as well.
We brought our new dog along for her first hike and so did everyone else. Most dogs I've ever seen on a hike. I personally prefer Franklin falls for this sort of flat waterfall hiking. There is no access to that water or riverside at any point during the hike. It is an excellent place to take a dog - …
This trail now goes to all along the ridge west to the Snoqualmie (Point?)trail head off of exit 27....so you can drop a car off at exit 27and then drive to the Rattlesnake Ledge TH and just continue west...it's about 11 miles...this would make a great conditioning hike to do a round trip(22mi)...There has been a ton of work done …
