I just did THis hike March 11th of 2005. I really enjoyed it. it was a nice workout for me. I hike about three times a week so it wasn't to hard. I have heard friends say that it is reallly tough but, no. I thought that their was alot of snow, considering all i had were some day hiking …

Lake 22 · cwalker222 · Apr 10, 2005

The trail is very well traveled and a very easy hike if you have any physical conditioning. It gets two hikers for the loose rock switchbacks, but if you have some decent boots for ankle support it's no problem. The entire trip took me just over two hours. It is a very beautiful hike with lots of water features along …

Mt. Si · Jennifer · Apr 9, 2005

I headed out planning to climb Little Si, found the parking lot full, and so headed on to Mt. Si. It was a little more strenuous than I'd planned on but turned out to be enjoyable enough with my dog. There were certainly a fair number of people out, but given it was a nice Saturday in April, that's to …

Mt Adams · Shannon · Apr 3, 2005

I climbed Mt Adams in 1996. I only made it to the False Summit at 11,700ft, but would love to climb again and to the top this time. I love this mountain! The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we could see almost every volcano in the chain except Baker and Shasta. I climbed Mt St Helens the next weekend and …

Indian Henry's Hunting Ground · kelltrip · Mar 30, 2005

I hiked the Wonderland Trail in Sept of '75. Hope to do it again in '05. The only place that I didn't really get to see was Indian Henry-too much fog! But your pics are outstanding as is your site. The other places around the Pacific Northwest are pretty good at bringing back good memories. I've hiked alot of the …

Lake 22 · Go4Hike · Mar 28, 2005

A great spring hike, we hiked this mid-March of this year, going early in the day when parking was plentiful. The NW Forest Pass is necessary to park at the trailhead. The lake two weeks ago was still mostly frozen, melting around the perimeter. As you approach the lake from the trail there is a small beach area where (at …

Annette Lake · Go4Hike · Mar 28, 2005

This was a mid-week hike for me last September. Under those circumstances the the trail was nearly deserted, I ran into only two other parties. My recollection of this hike is how green & mossy it was along parts of the trail. The lake itself is quite small, which on this day was also a very deep green. Along the …

Gobblers Knob · Sal · Mar 25, 2005

I hiked up to Gobbler’s Knob back in November of 2001. Pretty nice hike and we had nice weather. The only memorable thing that happened was: While we were sitting up on the rocks sunning ourselves, a guy in his mid-thirties or so came up with a couple ten or twelve year old kids. None of them had any back …

Alta Mtn. Rampart Ridge · caroline sayre · Mar 23, 2005

i've gone back packing at the lakes twice now, last summer and the summer before, carrying about 25 lbs., and though the last few miles are tough, there are great waterfalls and streams along the way, and the lakes at the end are a reward in and of themselves! keep going - get past rampart lake, to some of the …

Granite Mountain · Jeff Hodgson · Mar 22, 2005

I just got back from this hike today and man, what a trip! My buddy and I are pretty casual hikers, so we came somewhat unprepared as we were heading up, seeing a bunch of people coming down with gaiters and poles. It was fine though. There was a foot or so of snow up at the top, but as …

Tiger Mountain · RienMorris · Mar 22, 2005

Instead of taking the West Tiger 3, My friends and I took the Nook to the Section Trail to the peak. The hike was short in distance but very strenuous and steep. The trail signs I'm sure were well meaning but were lacking in useful information. About 2/3 into the hike, we had no idea how much farther the peak …

Mason Lake · Kuku · Mar 21, 2005

We headed to Bandera Mnt/Mason Lake trail on the rainy morning of March 19, 05. Initially we planned on going to Bandera, but it was so rainy and foggy, that there were not any views from there, so we headed to Mason Lake. The Ira Spring trail is in good condtition. After about 1.5 miles the snow started on the …

Talapus Lake · Jennifer · Mar 20, 2005

My friend, my dog and I went hiked this Saturday, March 20. My friend had never been hiking before, and my dog, a puppy, had never seen snow. The hike was fabulous for "beginner" hikers. The slope was gentle, and the lakes were beautiful. In addition, it was a great dog hike. It wasn't too crowded, especially between Talapus and …

Coast Hike at Ozette · jasfie · Mar 19, 2005

This is a great day hike for beginners. We even brought a poodle and he had a great time! We hiked this trail in March 2005 when the snowfall was nonexistent so this is probably why it was so easy going - but it can get a bit slippery going down to the lake so watch your bum!

Perry Creek & Mt. Forgotten · J D Rodgers · Mar 16, 2005

I think the best parts of this journey is (1)the first part, through the valley to the creek crossing. From there its goes steeply into the woods for what seems to be like too long!, finally emerging to partial views of Glacier and most of the Monte Cristo area. From the ridge there is a junction (left) to Stillaguamish peak …

Not Easy

Mt. Si · Richard · Mar 16, 2005

This hike is not easy, mainly because it is quite boring. The length isnt too bad, but the constant switch backs and lack of view makes for a dull hike. There are no scenic views until you almost reach the top. Its a great place for training and the friendly critters at the top are always amusing. Mt Si is …

Mt. Defiance · Leslie Geller · Mar 16, 2005

I had never hiked up to Mason Lake or Mt. Defiance before, so cannot speak to the old vs. new trail. This is a good trail, with great views south across I-90 and Mt. Rainier on the way to Mason Lake. This would be a hot hike in warm weather but yesterday's cool temp and slight cloud cover made it …

my brother and i started at noon on march 14. with the mild winter, we expected little or no snow but were quite surprised.i foolishly wore tennis shoes, my brother was smarter and wore boots. easy going for the first half, but the snow and ice the rest of the way was challenging. it seemed like a long 2 miles, …

Great for the kids

Little Si · Richard · Mar 15, 2005

This is a good hike for younger children. It starts off quite steep then flattens off quite quickly. The climb to the top isn’t too steep but there are lots of rock scrambles places for the kids to 'climb on'. (Adults can just walk up.) Near the top there is a cliff which over looks Mt Si, where you would …

Camp Muir · Richard · Mar 15, 2005

This is a fantastic hike and a great training hike. It is no cake walk and you really need to go prepared. The "10 essentials" really are essential on this hike. It is easy to wonder off the Muir Snow Field and get lost. I have done this hike a number of times in the summer and winter the last …

Camp Muir · CHough · Mar 15, 2005

This is the most memorable hike from when I was a kid approximately 16 years ago. Back then this hike was a walk in the park -- I had no idea what kind of shape I was in back then, nor did I have any idea how stupid I was. It must have been August or September. My father was …

Annette Lake · Tausha · Mar 13, 2005

We just went on this trail (March 13th) and it is probably not the best time to go. We went because the mountains have been unusually dry this year. There was very little snow until we got near to the lake. The hike was moderately difficult because of all the rocks on the trail. I kept twisting my ankles, and …

Hiked this today, and it was a fun, short hike. We made it to the top and back in under 2.5 hours, and that was a very leisurely pace. The views are nice, and it's interesting in both directions. It was busy but not crowded today (a nice day in March), but with many more people in-season it could get …
