Went on 7/31/09

Have done lots of hiking in MRNP, but for some reason I have never done this one until now. It was fantastic! The trail was all uphill, but regularly flattened out for just a few steps, enough to catch your breath. There were tons of little wild strawberries growing in the sunny patches on the way …

Decided to take the Fremont Lookout trail (July 31) to get ready for a Mt. Rainier summit climb. I hiked behind the Sunrise lodge to Frozen Lake along with the other day hikers. Once there at the lake, you can see the Fremont trail crossing the valley and rising up the ridge at a 45-ish degree angle. It's sort of …

My first option of the day was a hike to Indian Henry's. I took the Westside Road to its dead end parking area and my plan was to take a trail to IH that was marked on the park's map. It was a trail that runs parallel and a bit South of the South Puyallup Trail. After getting to the …

I did this hike with a friend and it was a nice climb. There are hilly areas but there are also flat stretches that give you a nice break. Also, there is a perfect amount of shade and direct sunlight ratio. The view is worth it, and a good place to have a snack or eat lunch. I really enjoyed …

I hiked the Skyline trail on Wednesday morning, July 22nd. Unbelievable. Get there in the morning and parking is a breeze. The temperature was perfect and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Views all the way south to Mt Hood. There is still a bit of snow on portions of the trail, and it gets a bit slippery and …

I did this hike on the weekend of July 18th and did an overnight stay. This hike is pretty easy to do, and the trail is well maintained. The lower route gives some nice pictures with the river, but the upper does occasionally open up for some mountain views, but I think the lower is an overall better experience. Make …

I hiked this trail on a Monday (7/20/09). Got to Paradise around 9am. The parking lot was 25% full which was great. I hiked the trail clockwise following a team of people heading out to Camp Muir. I needed a practice run on the moutain to see how I would do at altitiude, since I will be trying to climb …

My brother and I left the Sunrise parking lot at 1:00 pm, on the dot. We hadn't been up there in 2 years. We were using this hike to test out some new gear and as a warm up for Muir in a couple weeks and the Goat Rocks PCT in a month. We couldn't get in a good rhythm …

We LOVED this hike, the view at the top is one of the best in the area...well worth all the foot traffic. Careful with kids, easy for them as well. You CAN take your kids to the top, but do not let them wander, it is not fenced in or secured at the top.

My husband and I went to this tail with backpacks and spent a night at one of the three campsites near the Ranger's Cabin. It was our second backpacking tri[p and I would rank it as strenuous for a backpacker. The descriptions says it is 12 m and 2700 ft elevation gain, but since we started from Ohanapecosh campground it …

This hike is perfect for out-of-towners--and out-of-shapers. We were happy i with the 2.5 mile hike up to the first lookout (a nearly 300-degree view) so opted out of the other destinations. I'm a little acrophobic so I didn't venture down the rocks where others were perched, but got some nice panoramic shots and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the …

I loved it! Although the first time I went I was not in very good physical shape and it proved to be very hard, the wole experience was extremly spiritual for me and the view is phenomenal! A must do for anyone even if you only go part way.

We hiked this trail in the middle of the week on an overcast day. Got halfway up Mt. Pilchuck and realized there would be no view, so we tried Lake 22 at around 3:30. The views through old growth forest with waterfalls abounding were spectacular, but the lake at the top surrounded by mountains that pierced the undebellies of the …

Navaho Pass · Tulika · Jul 15, 2009

On very hot sunny Saturday, July 11th, we decided to head towards Navaho Pass. We started from Redmond at around 8:30. It took us about 2 hours to get to the trailhead. Only the last 3.5 mile of the road is unpaved, and it had usual potholes, but nothing that a small car cannot handle. We started at about 11:40. …

Great views up top, well worth sticking it out. Just set a slow steady pace and it's not that bad. If you've hiked the cable line trail on Tiger Mt., just double the distance and you'll have an idea of what you're in for.

I'm hiking the Enchantments via Colchuck then up and over Aasgard so what better way …

Go on a hot day and swim in the lake. If you want one of the nice camping spots get there in the early afternoon. Plenty of beautiful nature to enjoy.

The views on this mountain are awesome. A 360 degree panorama encompasses half of Western Washington, from Mount Baker to Mount Rainier to the Olympics. Some boulder scrambles and a snowfield make it a workout, and the bugs can be a bother, especially if you're huffing and puffing uphill at 1 MPH, but the scenic payout is worth every bite …

Hiked this trail 2009, 4th of July. Left around 7am and encountered only few hikers around that time. 3-4 hours it started to get pretty crowded (perfectly normal for this trail especially on a holiday weekend). Snow free until you get to the ridge. Then snow/ice pack solid. I didn't see how it was safe to go down as it's …

I reached the Van Trump trailhead at about 10 am this last wednesday. It was a bit cloudy but not bad over all. I was taking a friend on her first hike. Right away there is a great view of the river and some falls. Most people I saw on the hike weren't making it to the really good views. …

Hike up on July 3, 09. After the switchbacks end the trail becomes covered in 1-2 inches of water as the snow up top melts and runs down. There were still a few hard packed patches of snow that you have to cross, nothing a good pair of boots can't handle. Amazing views from the top, you are just surrounded …

We just did this hike June 28, 2009. We probably made a mistake in not starting early enough or we just spent too long taking pictures. Our group of four had a 12 and 14 year old. They had no issues with the trail and infact loved hiking to Navajo Partition Arch. Double O was ok. By the time we …

Mt. Pilchuck · Sam L · Jul 6, 2009

We went there on July 3 2009. The hike was mostly what others have said. I just want to point out that the second half was still covered with slushish snow, which could be fun, slippery, tiring, or all of the above. We didn't make it to summit as it'd probably take us 6 hours instead of the expected 4-hour-ish, …

Fragrance Lake · Holly · Jul 3, 2009

The first time my kids and I made the hike to Fragrance Lake, I wasn't sure if I'd ever make it. I'm fairly out of shape and it was almost 80F. Thankfully there are lots of benches to sit down on along the trail. It seemed like everyone was passing us. It was getting frustrating. Finally we were told "only …

Did this hike on July 1 and I must say I am a new mountain loop proponent (having exhausted all of the I-90 options many times over). This hike is absolutely beautiful--on this day you could see the Olympics as they slope down to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, not to mention Glacier, Baker, even Rainier and Stuart. The …
